Activism
Kan Kan Event
This artifact is a flyer that my team and I created after organizing a film event at Kan Kan, a local cinema in Indianapolis. The event was about raising awareness of the conflict in Ukraine in 2014, and we screened a Ukrainian film related to the topic. To make the event more meaningful, we also interviewed a few Ukrainians over Zoom to discuss their experiences during the conflict and their thoughts on the film. Additionally, we interviewed the film director to get her reflections on the movie. My role in the event was to reach out to local refugee organizations, both in Indianapolis and in Poland, to share our plans and explore what work was being done with Ukrainians in our community. Through organizing and executing the event, I gained valuable skills in event planning, community outreach, and cross-cultural communication. The artifact demonstrates my commitment to raising awareness of global issues and connecting our community with the world around us.
Poland Journal
This artifact is a journal that I wrote during my two-week trip to Poland. It was an incredible experience, as it was my third trip to Europe, and I had the opportunity to meet many people from Poland. What made it even better was the fact that most of them could speak English, so I could communicate with them effectively. During my time in Poland, I volunteered at a refugee center for Ukrainians, and I also interviewed Ukrainian refugees who had been forced to flee their country. I wrote down my thoughts, observations, and reflections on these experiences in my journal. One of the most meaningful moments for me was when I was able to volunteer by myself and spend time with Ukrainians who did not speak English. Although we couldn't communicate through words, I could still feel their pain, and that was a powerful experience. Reading my journal later on, I gained insights into the solutions developed by the organizations I worked with, and it was a valuable learning experience. Overall, the artifact demonstrates my cross-cultural communication skills, research skills, and my passion for helping others and finding solutions to social problems.
